Certified Geriatricians
Certified geriatricians are on-site four days a week and on call 24-hours a day assuring that routine, emergent or specialty care is available immediately. Geriatricians meet with families to help set realistic goals for the residents in the rehabilitative program.

As faculty members of WFUBMC, Oak Summit’s physicians participate in cutting-edge research in geriatric medicine. Their participation in the latest clinical treatments and protocols means superior care for Oak Summit’s residents.

Licensed Nursing Staff and Certified Nursing Assistants
Everyday, Oak Summit’s nursing staff goes beyond the call of duty to provide residents with the best care and attention. Nursing care is based on individual needs and includes total care, administration of medication, observation of condition and assistance in dressing, feeding, walking and bathing.

Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapists
Fulltime physical, occupational and speech therapists provide on-site care five days a week. Residents receive specialized rehabilitative care using the latest technologies which guarantees that treatment options are up-to-date.

Wound and Skin Care Team
The interdisciplinary wound and skin care team consists of a geriatrician, wound-care nurse, nutrition specialist and pharmacist who use a variety of therapeutic options in the treatment of diabetic, surgical, pressure or trauma wounds. The team also participates in providing comprehensive wound prevention care.

Ventilator Nurses and Respiratory Therapists
Ventilator nurses and respiratory therapists offer around-the-clock care for the special needs of our long-term ventilator-dependent residents. Ventilator care is directed by a pulmonologist.

Dentists
Dentistry services are conveniently provided on-site once per month through the mobile dental clinic. Services include screening, cleanings and routine follow-up. For more in depth dental needs, the dentist will develop a plan with the family.

Podiatrists
Routine foot maintenance and care for acute problems are provided on-site by a podiatrist that specializes in geriatric care.

Social Workers
Social workers assist residents and families from the time of admission through discharge in areas such as financial planning, individual and/or family counseling and discharge planning.

Our professionals are committed to supporting residents and families through the often emotional transition from one type of care to another. Social workers also arrange home health services and equipment and manage transfers to other facilities.

Admissions Team
The admissions team at Oak Summit includes a nurse post-acute care evaluator, an admissions coordinator and a financial assessment coordinator. Prospective residents are admitted within a 24-hour period following referral.

The admissions process is directed by an experienced nurse who is qualified to recommend resident care and equipment needs, and who helps each resident make a smooth transition to Oak Summit.

Psychologist
Residents suffering from depression or transitional stress receive on-site psychiatric services provided by a physician specializing in geriatric psychiatry.

On-site pharmacists specializing in geriatric medicine support the medical staff in the selection and use of medications.

Oak Summit dietary specialists serve as personal consultants to assure that nutritional and emotional needs are met.

Activities Staff
The activities program at Oak Summit is directed by professionals certified in the long-term care activities program. A wide variety of activities are offered such as exercise programs, outings to sports events, shopping and crafts. There are also opportunities to enjoy delicious and healthy food, entertainment, socialization and worship—activities designed to provide a stimulating homelike living environment. An organized resident council is also supported by the activities staff to provide an open forum for resident discussion of facility issues.
